In a wheelchair or use a walker? No problem. Taronga Zoo has an ‘Accessibility Map’ of all their accessible areas. So no matter your age or ability, a day at Taronga zoo is a fun day out!

Taronga Zoo has an ‘Accessibility Map’ of all their accessible areas. This map highlights all the areas of the zoo including accessible toilets, adult MLAK changing rooms, and parents’ rooms. The map also indicates where there are heavy doors, lifts, as well as steep hills, and more gentle hills to help plan your route around the zoo.

For Individuals with Autism

Taronga Zoo offers a unique way for individuals with Autism to enjoy the zoo and you can register for ‘Access Taronga Days’ offered throughout the year to family and friends of those with Autism of any age. On these days, the zoo is opened early to allow access before the general public. This unique access includes a Sky Safari cable car ride and individualised interaction with the animals.

Taronga Zoo has developed social stories alongside Autism Spectrum Australia, which encompass the zoo trip. These are short stories to prepare one for what to expect during a zoo trip and can be downloaded as a PDF from their website here.

Redeem your $25 voucher at the Zoo. Autumn is the perfect time to visit Taronga zoo Sydney or Taronga Western Plains Zoo Dubbo and now thanks to the Dine & Discover NSW Program, you can save $25.

Overnight Stays

You don’t want to go home at the end of the day, I hear you say? Why not stay overnight! You have the choice between two experiences. The “Roar & Snore” offers a fantastic glamping experience with comfy beds (electric blankets in winter), real hot showers (full disability bathroom), and great food. The behind-the-scenes tours along with the nocturnal tour are adaptable to your needs… my favourite was feeding the giraffe breakfast.

The second option is the Eco Zoo Hotel, now if this is more your style; you are welcomed into a truly unique space overlooking an exclusive sanctuary with Koalas outside your bedroom window, Paddymelons jumping underneath your bedroom window, and a front-row seat to Sydney’s magnificent harbour and a specular sunset over the harbour bridge. The accessible hotel room is on the ground floor and is fully equipped for all your needs; even coming within an arm’s reach of Koalas casually living on the tree outside your window. Dinner and breakfast are served in the restaurant and are fully accessible by a lift overlooking the harbour. Tours are conducted from the main lobby and are adapted to your needs.
